Get Ready for an Adventure: Ocoee River White Water Rafting, Fishing, and Picnics!"

Are you ready to embark on a thrilling escapade filled with adventure and excitement? Look no further than the breathtaking Ocoee River! Situated in Tennessee, this river not only boasts a rich history but also offers incredible opportunities for white water rafting, fishing, and delightful picnics. Prepare yourself for an unforgettable journey as you navigate through exhilarating rapids that will get your heart pounding with adrenaline.

Steeped in captivating history, the Ocoee River is known for its role in the 1996 Olympic Games where it hosted the white water events. As you glide along these legendary waters, take a moment to imagine yourself competing alongside world-class athletes who once braved these very same rapids.

The Ocoee is only 60 minutes west of Murphy, so it makes for an awesome day away.

Here are some fun facts:

  • Only 11% of the river is used for white water rafting. The river is actually 93 miles long, but rafting only happens between Dam #2 and Dam #3.
  • The word Ocoee means "Wild Apricot" in Cherokee. During spring and summer you may see wildflowers (which are called maypops). The word "ocoee" is the Cherokee name for this type of flower.
  • About 60% of the river is in Georgia, where it is called the Tocca River. When the river reaches the state line in McCaysville, Georgie and Copperhill, Tennessee, it then becomes the Ocoee River.
